The Deviant is available in

So you don’t simply choose small, medium, or large: each version places a different emphasis on size, length, and weight.
Ripplehead™: the Deviant’s trademark feature
The most striking feature of the Deviant series is undoubtedly the
Ripplehead™ developed by E-Stim Systems. Multiple rounded ridges are milled into the metal head. The front of the head remains smoothly rounded, after which the relief transitions into the narrower neck.
These ridges serve more than just an aesthetic purpose. They increase and vary the physical contact surface of the conductive head. As a result, the Deviant clearly distinguishes itself from the completely smooth insertable electrodes found in various other E-Stim product lines.
It’s a bit like E-Stim ran a neat metal electrode through a corrugator—except here, every curve is deliberately designed and milled from aluminum.
A true bipolar electrode
The
E-Stim Deviant is bipolar. This means that both electrical contact points are integrated into the same electrode. The metal Ripplehead forms one conductive part, and the metal base forms the other. Between them is an
electrically insulated neck.
As a result, a single Deviant can form a complete electrical circuit when both 4 mm connectors are properly connected to a single compatible channel. A second separate electrode is therefore not necessary.
The contoured neck also serves a practical function. The narrower section helps the electrode stay in place once inserted, while the deeper rim in the base provides extra grip during removal.
Small Deviant – compact with a 38 mm head
The E-Stim Systems Small Deviant is the most compact version, with a total length of 110 mm. The maximum insertable length is approximately 75 mm, and the diameter of the Ripplehead is
38 mm. It weighs 245 grams.
So “Small” here mainly means shorter. The head actually has exactly the same diameter as that of the Medium. Anyone who likes the Ripplehead design but doesn’t need the extra length of the Medium will find the Small to be the more compact option offering the same 38 mm-wide head.
Medium Deviant – the original model
The
E-Stim Systems Medium Deviant was the model that started this series. E-Stim Systems originally sold it simply as the Deviant; after the Small and Large were added to the family, it was designated as the Medium.
This version also has a diameter of
38 mm, but the total length increases to 128 mm. Of that, approximately 110 mm is insertable. Weighing 296 grams, the Medium is only 51 grams heavier than the Small, while offering significantly more length.
This means Medium isn’t a thicker version of Small, but rather its longer counterpart. This distinction is more important when choosing than the names “Small” and “Medium” might suggest at first glance.
Large Deviant – 50 mm and 619 grams
With the
E-Stim Systems Large Deviant, the scale changes significantly. The Ripplehead grows to a diameter of
50 mm, while the total length comes to 150 mm. Of that, approximately 115 mm is insertable.
The difference is also hard to miss on the scale. The Large weighs
619 grams, more than twice as much as the Small. This version thus combines the familiar ribbed Deviant profile with considerably more mass and volume.
Large is therefore clearly intended for experienced users who are specifically looking for a substantial insertable electrode. While the Small and Medium models still make a reasonably modest appearance at the table, Large pushes its chair back and asks who actually decided that 38 mm was enough.

Which Deviant is right for you?
The three versions differ from one another in more ways than just a simple S-M-L classification.
Small and Medium are both 38 mm thick. Small is notably more compact, with a 75 mm insertable length compared to 110 mm for Medium.
Large represents the real step up: 50 mm in diameter, 115 mm insertable length, and 619 grams in weight. If you’re primarily looking for more depth without opting for a thicker head, Medium is the way to go. If you’re specifically seeking more diameter and mass, Large is the right choice.
Lubricant, Use, and Safety
E-Stim Systems recommends using a
water-based lubricant with the Deviant, such as their own ElectroGel. This ensures smooth use and good electrical contact. The manufacturer advises against using silicone or hybrid lubricants with these electrodes.
Connect the electrode while the power box is turned off and set the intensity to the lowest setting before activating the device. Then gradually increase the intensity. Use e-stim below the waist, avoid applying it around the head and neck, and do not place electrodes on damaged or irritated skin.
E-Stim Systems advises against use during pregnancy and in cases of epilepsy, heart conditions, and electronic implants such as a pacemaker or insulin pump. If you have any medical concerns, consult a doctor beforehand.
Dismountable for thorough cleaning
The Deviant can be
dismounted for cleaning. This is especially practical with the Ripplehead, as its surface features multiple milled grooves.
Turn off the device, unplug the cable, and disassemble the electrode. E-Stim Systems recommends mild, fragrance-free soap, a suitable toy cleaner, or a medical-grade cleaning solution. Pay extra attention to the ridges, seams, and grooves, and rinse away any cleaning residue thoroughly. Do not use alkaline or corrosive cleaning agents.
The metal parts can also be wiped down with 70% isopropyl alcohol. According to the manufacturer, the electrodes can also be boiled or steam-sterilized, although this may cause slight discoloration. Allow all parts to dry completely before reassembling and storing the electrode.
