View full detailsRope and tape are the most creative and versatile bondage materials. With rope, you can create positions that aren’t possible with cuffs—from a simple wrist tie to a full shibari harness. Bondage tape only sticks to itself and can be applied and removed in minutes. Both offer a different feel, a different atmosphere, and different possibilities. In this collection, you’ll find bondage rope in jute, cotton, and nylon, and bondage tape in multiple colors and widths.
Bondage rope — which material should you choose?
The material of the rope largely determines how the binding feels and how well the knots hold:
Jute rope is the traditional choice for shibari. It has a slightly rough texture—which ensures that knots hold well and don’t come undone on their own. The roughness is noticeable on the skin and distinctive. Jute has a characteristic scent that many people associate inextricably with bondage. Cotton rope is softer and smoother than jute—more comfortable for sensitive skin and better for beginners who are still learning to tie knots. Knots come undone slightly more easily than with jute. Nylon rope is strong, smooth, and easy to clean. Knots do not hold as well as with jute or cotton, but the rope is durable and weather-resistant. Suitable for more intense use.
Shibari — the Japanese art of rope bondage
Shibari is a Japanese bondage technique in which the body is bound with rope in an aesthetic and functional manner. The patterns are both functional and visual—a good shibari binding looks breathtaking. Start with simple ankle ties or a basic wrist knot and work your way up step by step. Jute is the traditional shibari material; cotton is more accessible for beginners.
Bondage tape — fast, versatile, colorful
Bondage tape sticks only to itself—not to skin, hair, or clothing. That makes it ideal for those who don’t want to learn knots but still want the sensation of restraint. Wrap the tape several times around wrists, ankles, or other body parts, and cut or tear it off when releasing. Available in black, red, pink, and more. Latex bondage tape sticks the strongest and has a glossy finish; PVC tape is latex-free and suitable for people with a latex allergy.
BDSM rope vs. regular rope
Never use regular rope from a hardware store for bondage. Such rope is often too rough, cuts into the skin under tension, and is not treated for skin contact. Bondage rope is specifically selected for thickness, softness, and safety for use on the body. The slightly higher price is truly justified here.
Lengths and storage
Bondage rope is typically sold in lengths of 5 and 10 meters. For shibari, you’ll need multiple lengths of 8–10 meters. For simple wrist binding, 5 meters is sufficient. Store rope rolled up or folded in a dry place—never tie up damp rope, as this damages the fibers.
Frequently Asked Questions
What is the best rope for bondage beginners?
8mm-thick cotton rope. Soft, skin-friendly, knots tie and untie easily. Switch to jute later if you want to learn shibari.
How long should bondage rope be?
For simple wrist binding, 5 meters is sufficient. For shibari, you’ll work with multiple pieces of 8–10 meters each. Start with two 10-meter pieces—that gives you plenty to work with.
Is bondage tape safe for the skin?
Yes, bondage tape only sticks to itself. Be sure to check for latex allergies—if so, opt for latex-free PVC tape.
