Latex clothing, what should you pay attention to and how do you maintain it?

Items made from natural latex require care to keep them in pristine condition. This simple yet informative guide to latex clothing - how to care for items, best ways to protect products and tips - is sure to help you enjoy your latex clothing for a long time to come.

Putting on latex clothes

The vast majority of latex clothing is made from molded natural latex. Here, liquid rubber is poured directly into a mold to develop seamless items. These molded latex articles are typically thicker than bonded latex equivalents, making them much more resistant to tearing or splitting. Nevertheless, latex clothing is very form-fitting and works almost like a second skin. To don latex without splitting or tearing the latex, it's best to apply talcum powder or a silicone-based lubricant to the inside of the garment so it won't stick to the skin when applied. Gently pull the garment on, being careful not to grab it on fingernails or jewelry. Also make sure your skin is completely dry and keep in mind that it's just as important to do this both when taking off and putting on your latex clothing.

Caring for latex clothing after wearing

Wipe clean with warm soapy water after using latex clothing. Make sure all soap has been removed and then hang to dry. Make sure the garment is sufficiently dry and does not stick together, turn it inside out to end the drying process. Never put latex clothing in the washing machine or dryer and do not iron it!!!

Add shine

When you buy latex clothing, the latex looks dull, which is due to (talcum or baby) powder to prevent dehydration. This can seem a bit misleading, as latex clothing is usually considered shiny. Offering latex clothing with a glossy finish by using a latex polish is strongly recommended. After applying some latex gloss to your garment, buff the surface of the latex with a soft cloth for a nice shine. Rubber and silicone-based lubricants also help you get into latex garments more easily and keep your garments in great condition for longer.

Extend the life of latex clothing

To extend the life of latex things and prevent the quality from deteriorating, keep it in a dry, dark location (a closet or a closet for example) away from direct sunlight, moisture and also heat. It is also important to store latex clothing at room temperature. If they are too cold it will be more difficult to put them on as they will definitely be much less flexible. As an extra protection procedure (although not necessarily necessary), add baby powder to your latex items and wrap it in paper in an airtight bag before putting it in a cupboard or drawer.
