what is chastity?

Chastity actually means very simply one thing. The person who is chaste may not get horny/get a hardon and/or not have sex. Usually a physical toy, the so-called chastity belt or chastity cage is used. But within an SM relationship, there can also simply be rules whereby the submissive partner is not allowed to have sexual contact (with others or with himself) temporarily or for a long time.

In this article we use the terms submissive and dominant for clarity, but that doesn't necessarily mean that chastity is always a part of a S&M relationship. For some people, chastity is simply a fetish or part of their lifestyle.

How do people "do" chastity and why is that SM?

During a chastity game, there is a power exchange going on. The submissive does not masturbate or have sex and gives control to the dominant. This can be a temporary appointment of a few hours, but can sometimes take (much) longer. From a few days to weeks.

Of course it remains important that the partners have an open and respectful discussion about this in order to make agreements and to ensure that safety is guaranteed.

To make these appointments even more effective, a submissive can wear a chastity device or belt. This is a metal or plastic cage or a leather belt, which is closed with a lock. The key is generally in the possession of the dominant (or key bearer). He or she determines when the chastity belt can be removed.

For safety, agreements are usually made whereby a spare key is placed in a sealed envelope or bottle that may only be opened in case of emergency.

Why do people like playing with chastity?

Some people find it very exciting not to touch their own genitals unless there is permission from the dominant. So there is no physical sexual pleasure but a lot of mental sexual stimulation. The exchange of power is often experienced as very erotic by both partners.

Chastity used to be used to prevent women from having sex before they were married and thus remained virgins. Otherwise, in the eyes of many faiths and traditional beliefs, they were impure. Fortunately, times have changed! Today, chastity is mainly seen as an element in SM or fetish play.l.
